Privacy Policy
We only market to you if you ask us to. There's a box on our application form. Leave it alone and the only contact you'll get from us is about your application. This page explains how we and our partners handle your information.

Why we use your information, and our lawful basis
| What we use it for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Assessing your application and matching it to lenders who may be able to help | Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract |
| Verifying your identity and address | Legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in preventing fraud |
| Carrying out credit searches and affordability checks | Steps taken at your request before entering into a contract, and legal obligation |
| Preventing and detecting fraud, money laundering, and financial crime | Legal obligation, and our legitimate interest in protecting our business and our customers |
| Responding to your questions and handling complaints | Our legitimate interest in running our business properly, and legal obligation where the complaint is regulated |
| Keeping records the Financial Conduct Authority requires us to keep | Legal obligation |
| Improving the website and understanding how it is used | Our legitimate interest in developing our services |
| Sending you marketing about our services | Your consent, given by ticking the marketing box on our application form |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have considered whether those interests are outweighed by your rights. You can ask us for details of that assessment at any time.
Credit reference agencies
To assess your application we may carry out a search with one or more credit reference agencies. We use quotation searches, often called soft searches. These are visible to you when you look at your own credit report, but they are not visible to lenders and they do not affect your credit score.
If you go on to apply directly with a lender we introduce you to, that lender may carry out a full credit search. A full search is recorded on your credit file and can be seen by other lenders. That search is the lender's, not ours, and it will be covered by the lender's own privacy policy.
Credit reference agencies keep a record of our searches whether or not your application proceeds. They also link the records of people who are financially associated with each other, for example if you have a joint account.
The credit reference agencies we work with are Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. They have produced a shared document called the Credit Reference Agency Information Notice, which explains in full how they use your information, how long they keep it, and the rights you have. You can read it at www.experian.co.uk/crain, www.equifax.co.uk/crain, or www.transunion.co.uk/crain.
Fraud prevention
We and our partners may check your details against fraud prevention databases. If we think there is a risk of fraud, we may refuse to process your application, and a record of that decision may be kept by the fraud prevention agency. Other organisations may then take that record into account when you apply for services from them. This can affect your ability to get credit, insurance, or a bank account, and it can affect your ability to open an account in another country.
We keep records of fraud risk for up to six years, or longer where a fraud is confirmed.
Who we share your information with
- Lenders and other credit brokers. This is the core of what we do. When you apply, we pass your details to lenders and, where appropriate, to other brokers who may be able to arrange the credit you have asked for. They will use your information under their own privacy policies and will become data controllers in their own right.
- Credit reference agencies and fraud prevention agencies, as described above.
- Suppliers who work on our behalf, including our hosting provider, email provider, telephony provider, analytics provider, and identity verification provider. They act on our instructions and cannot use your information for their own purposes.
- Regulators and law enforcement, including the Financial Conduct Authority, the Financial Ombudsman Service, HM Revenue and Customs, and the police, where we are required or permitted to disclose.
- Professional advisers, including our lawyers, auditors, and insurers.
- A buyer or successor, if our business or part of it is sold or transferred.
We do not sell your personal information.
Automated decision-making
Applications submitted through this site are assessed automatically. Our system compares the information you give us against the lending criteria of the lenders on our panel and works out which of them, if any, we can introduce you to. Nobody on our staff reviews that before you are shown the outcome, which means some applications are ruled out without a person having looked at them.
Because the decision is automated, you have the right to:
- ask for a person to review it
- tell us anything you think should have been taken into account
- challenge the outcome
Email us at help@easyloans.co.uk and a member of our staff will go through your application again. We cannot make a lender accept you, but we can check that the information we used was correct and that the criteria were applied properly, and we will tell you what we find.
How long we keep your information
We keep your application information for six years after your relationship with us ends. This is because the Financial Conduct Authority requires us to keep records for that period, and because it is the limitation period for most claims.
If we record a telephone call with you, we keep the recording for 12 months. Website analytics data is kept for 12 months. If you ask us to stop sending you marketing, we keep a record of that request indefinitely so that we can honour it.
Where we no longer need your information, we delete it or anonymise it so that it can no longer be linked to you.
Marketing
We do not market to you unless you ask us to.
There is a marketing box on our application form. It is not ticked when you arrive at it, and you do not have to tick it to apply. If you leave it alone, we will not send you offers by email, text, post, or telephone.
If you do tick it, you can change your mind at any time. Every marketing message includes a way to unsubscribe, and you can email us at help@easyloans.co.uk to be taken off our list. We will act on that straight away.
Opting out of marketing does not stop us contacting you about an application you have already made, because we need to be able to do that to deal with it.
Lenders and other brokers we pass your application to are separate organisations and make their own decisions about contacting you. Their privacy policies explain what they do and how to opt out with them.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Be told how we use your information, which is what this policy is for
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- Ask us to delete your information, though we cannot do this where we are required to keep it
- Ask us to restrict how we use your information while a query is being resolved
- Object to us using your information where we rely on legitimate interests, and object at any time to direct marketing
- Ask us to transfer information you gave us to another organisation, where it is held electronically and we rely on your consent or on a contract
- Withdraw your consent at any time, where consent is what we rely on
There is normally no charge, and we will respond within one month. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. To make a request, contact help@easyloans.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy regularly. If we make a significant change, we will say so on this page and update the date at the top. This version replaces any earlier version.
